Here's how the following steps work.

We have a Notepad file open and we have an Internet Explorer window open. You may not have known this but, a web browser like IE isn't limited to reading files from the web - they can also read any .html file on your hard drive!

We will enter some text into our Notepad file, Save the change to that file, then view the change in Internet Explorer.

Let’s go back to our Notepad file and type an item description for our eBay listing. You will notice in Fig 8 below that we have typed in a very basic item description.

IMPORTANT! Note that we hit the Enter key on our computer keyboard twice wherever we wanted to start a new paragraph.

Once finished, we must save the file to our hard drive by clicking on File on the menu bar and then Save As command as in fig. 9 below

Fig. 9
A “Save As” dialog box will pop up (fig 10 below).

Follow these three steps:
  • 1.Click the dropdown arrow on the right hand side of the Save in: window and select Desktop if it is not already displayed
  • 2.In the File name box, delete the default “*.txt” and type: test.html
  • 3.Click the dropdown arrow on the right hand side of the Save as type window and choose, All Files.
Your Save As box should now look something like Fig 10a below:

4.Finally, click the Save button.
Now our changes to the Notepad file (new contents and a new file name) are saved to the computer's hard drive from which any other application can now read the very same contents.

In step 4, we will view the contents of the test.html file from within an Internet Explorer browser window.

Let's move on to Step 4.
